The screen is not that bright

I bought this tablet to replace the outdated Galaxy Tab 10.1. Very disappointed with the brightness of the screen. My old tablet was much better in this regard. I also miss the physical home button. Was very helpful when a full screen application stopped responding. Now I need to figure out how to return control when the softbuttons don't appear. It looks like everything has taken a step back.
