Review on Meiyutang Xuan Paper (Shuan/Rice Paper) – 50 πŸ“œ Sheets for Calligraphy Painting Practice: Naturally Half Ripe (201) by Amy Mcleod

quite heavy compared to other calligraphy papers

I bought this paper on the recommendation of my teacher, so I hurried, ordered and received it within a day. The paper is a bit off-white which gives it a vintage feel, quite heavy compared to other calligraphy paper, good quality. It's slightly larger than a calligraphy book or sketchbook, the perfect size for calligraphy practice or small sumi drawings. The paper is half ripe and half wet, so it's good to use ink (but not ink pens, unless you're drawing sumi or se-i for its absorbent effect). The paper stays very smooth after the ink dries (some papers get crumpled after the ink dries) and my calligraphy looks better than it is (I really like it). I want to try a little sumi painting in a few days, I'm sure it will be good too. Good quality, highly recommended.

Pros
  • Weight: 18 g/m2; Size: 9.5"*13.1" (24.5cm x 33.5cm); Quantity: 50 sheets;
Cons
  • Doesn't work
