These gauges are simple color coded metal pieces that help you determine how many pads you have left. They're not very accurate, but they give you a good idea of how worn the pads are, although you can tell a lot just by looking at them. It is best to use this tool when the pads are in the middle of their life to see if they are approaching the minimum recommended material. They also help track brake wear over time and compare pads for uneven wear. In general the quality is good. Color seems good and they are all metallic and fairly rigid, not easy to bend. Seems like a simple tool but good to have on hand for general car maintenance. Gauges aren't accurate, but they're within 0.5mm and good enough for reference. I don't see why they can't be used for professional use, although I use them on various old cars at home.
