That's a good idea but poor execution in my opinion. The cork is perfect for a medium sized wine bottle. But the cable comes out from the top, not through the bottle. No matter where you place the lamp, if the plug is under the base of the lamp, it will become unbalanced. In the end I dismantled the block and pulled the string through the middle. So I could thread the string through the bottle and the cork was still tight. I drill a hole in the bottom of the back of the bottle for the string. It looks much better and now the lamp can stand anywhere. There is also no harp on this lamp. So your lampshade should be the type that attaches to the bulb.
