Power for the DIYer

All in all a great tool set for the handyman with a certain skill level. Basically a professional kit for the experienced homeowner/consumer. Large battery and fast charging. Sturdy and well-designed body (it's nice to have a place to store spare blades). DC385 with keyless blade clamp for quick blade changes. PROS: Great balance. Good performance. Cuts through 2x4s like butter. Supplied with 2 blades (coarse and fine teeth). CONS: Bottom-loading battery requires an inverted blade to cut through the sole. This leads to an unfavorable trigger position and a loss of this good balance. The device can be bulky for limited space. Flexible radiator DW919 for hands-free use. ADVANTAGES: Mainly useful for people who work full time during the day and work with the kit in dark places in the evening. Rarely usually, but still happens I think. The adjustable jet is a nice feature. CONS: The weakest link in the kit. A 4-piece set with a puzzle would have made more sense. The flexible rubber-plastic lever feels a little flaky. I have a feeling I'll destroy it soon. The DC988 drill/screwdriver/hammer drill has 500 in.-lbs. Maximum Torque Exclusive 3 Speed All Metal Transmission BENEFITS: I use this tool the most out of the three. Drills through the concrete floor slab as if asking for a drill. Both horizontal and vertical drilling are well balanced. Practical extension handle. The keyless chuck can actually be operated with one hand. Excellent performance and battery life of more than an hour with normal and heavy use (enough to charge another battery). CONS: Problems with data transfer. Sometimes the perforator mode does not turn on from the clutch settings. If you run the drill at full speed for about 15 seconds, the clutch and gearbox internals appear to be back in place and working properly (I can't explain why this alone fixes the problem, but it does). Sometimes I see sparks inside the drill - keep away from flammable materials and gases. The balance with the extra handle is a little bad. It takes some skill to get it right so you don't bend your dentures. The case may get warm after more than 20 minutes of intensive use. The DC390 cuts 2X4 at 45 degrees in one pass. Haven't used it much yet to give an honest review. Will have to come back to that. In the meantime I can say: PROS: Good balance with the battery, like the other tools in the set, but heavier than any corded model for obvious reasons. You no longer need to buy sheathing tapes. Multiple 2x4x16 foot studs are easy to knock off. It feels like a real professional tool after using Ryobi for so long. CONS: None yet.
