Porter PC1500HG Heat Gun This is a great heat gun at an affordable price. I originally considered one of two DeWalt models but read a lot of conflicting reviews about them, plus the cheaper DeWalt was twice the price of this Porter cable. I've used it for drying drywall mud stains, touching up paint, and random heat shrink tubing. This one seemed to fit the bill and was a lot cheaper at $30. When I first used it, I turned it on at low speed and then at high speed. I then gradually adjusted the temperature controller to max over a few minutes and let it max/max for a few minutes. I would recommend you do this outside because you can smell the heated plastic and paint. It's like getting a new oven and putting it to work for the first time. I then turned off the temperature control and let it cool for a minute. If you're using it indoors in a non-ventilated area I would do this a few times to get rid of the new tamper smell. I also think it lasts longer if you set it to a low temp and let it cool before turning it off after each high temp use. separately from the fan speed. So you can turn on the fan, regulate the temperature, and then turn on the heater when you need it. You can also easily cool it down without having to keep turning the temperature dial. The dial is a little flat and doesn't turn particularly easily. I would like a better connection. I can cover it with a rubber grip for the tools I have on my shelf when I have a minute. In terms of processing, it looks very good. I like the ergonomics and the feel in hand. It is convenient to use for a long time. Much quieter than most hair dryers. It also doesn't have nearly as much airflow. I would say the high speed setting here is similar to the low speed setting on most hair dryers. Which is good for me and probably necessary to keep the air warm. Don't try to dry your hair with it, you can easily burn yourself if you hold it close to the airflow. It is said to output 110 F to 1100 F per inch from the nozzle. Another feature that I really like is the cable. It is thick but flexible and high quality. It has a nice, hard rubber feel. A glossy hard plastic coating cannot be heard. Most likely this is a heat resistant part of the silicone coated cable, or maybe not. But it can be processed and processed well. I know I paid $15 for a good saw cable. It's very nice to have a good $30 heat gun. I will definitely be buying some attachments in the future. It would be nice to be able to heat shrink without having to work on all sides of the tubing. I know the U mount allows you to shrink in place. This is necessary when applying heat shrink tubing to wires that are in a compartment or box where you cannot go around all sides of the tube. The polyolefin tubing I usually use activates at 194 F, so that's more than enough. It is great for speeding up the drying of dirt and paint. Just use the low temperature setting and remember that there is a lot of water in thick areas throughout the depth. As the top dries, it will get wet again as moisture moves outwards from the center. I would apply in thin layers and dry to create it. It seems to be the quickest way. If you apply paint to a dry but still damp inside of a smudge, you are more than likely to find cracked and peeling paint the next day as the moisture has migrated from the smudge. Then you have to sand, sand and repaint! Either way, this is a wonderful heat gun. I'm glad I bought it. It has a one year guarantee. I hope it lasts much longer. But for $30 I couldn't complain too much even if it only lasted a few days. Great item for your tool kit, DIY or professional. For that I give 5 stars.
