I feel compelled to write a review on the Seasonic Prime 850W Platinum PSU. Short story, I have the following power supplies. They all work great and are still in use today. All of them are in boxes that work 24/7 365 with interruptions only for maintenance. These are all power supplies that are 10 or about 10 years old. No problem. Seasonic M12II 620W Bronze (2011) Corsair 650HX (2010) Super Flower 550 (?) Unfortunately the Seasonic M12II caused some lights on my new system during boot up. So I decided it was time to upgrade the PSU to something worthwhile for the system: 3950x from 5700xt. I turned to Seasonic because it has always been the gold standard for power supplies. The Prime 850 arrived and everything looked great. This is a power adapter, plug it in and turn it on. I don't care if it looks pretty, the fan turns on or off, blah blah blah, cable management, seriously I don't care. For me the most important factor is 1. Works 2. Works reliably. Unfortunately, the Prime 850W is a piece of crap. Immediately after installing the power supply, the system began to work unstably. If you download it and leave it on the login screen, it sometimes gets stuck when the system tries to put the display to sleep. Sometimes the system also hung when navigating through the menu. Literally the system just rebooted, no errors. Checking the Windows event logs before the restart shows no errors or warnings. No indication of what's going on. I've been struggling with a very erratic and unstable computer for the past two weeks. I've gone through countless troubleshooting steps, checking BIOS settings, flashing the BIOS, reinstalling memory, checking power connections, removing cards, checking OS power/hibernate settings. Eventually I gave up, pulled out the Prime 850W and put the M12II back in the box. The system is now completely stable. This leads me to believe that the Prime 850W was the problem, especially since it all started on a system that was perfectly stable ONLY after installing the Prime 850W. Suffice it to say that Seasonic surprised me. I read several reviews raving about this power supply. Turns out if you browse the forums you can find threads of people having issues with all of the new Seasonic power supplies. Luckily I'm still in my comeback phase and this powerhouse is making a comeback. I already bought a new power supply, not a Seasonic device. Come to think of it, I probably won't be buying anything seasonal for a while. It seems that all their glory has gone to their heads. It's not that I buy power supplies often, and they probably don't care either, given the hype surrounding their products. The 24-pin cable could also have been longer. It's a little on the short side.
