At first I was a little "annoyed" that it measured ice cubes (pure reverse osmosis water) and a few other items. BUT you can adjust the emissivity of the object to be measured so that I can get close to it. It also comes with a Type K thermocouple. Because I've done research and development in temperature measurement, I've been able to sort of calibrate infrared with a variable emissivity, which isn't possible with other options. The repeatability is pretty good and that's more important to me. It has a wide measurement distance and good performance (Max, Min, Average, Delta, etc.). It also has a range high enough to work with my eventual outdoor brick oven. The best I've ever used.
