Not Intended for Testing Human Temperature. The General Tools and Instruments IRT850K Industrial IRT Thermometer is ideal for measuring high temperatures safely from a distance. This laser thermometer is extremely useful for many industrial applications including operation and maintenance of furnaces and heat exchangers. Digital thermometer features adjustable emissivity and dual targeting lasers. Also features port for optional K type thermocouple for contact surface temperature measurements. Industrial thermometer has a large backlit dual readout LCD for easy read outs and a white LED flashlight make working in low light areas easy. Thermometer comes with protective case, tripod mount, user's manual, and 1-Year Limited ; CE approved; runs on 2 AAA batteries (not included). Class II laser product, <1mW power output.

This tool is pathetic. I'm a blacksmith and thought it was .

This tool is pathetic. I'm a blacksmith and thought this thermometer (IRT675) would be useful for tempering and generally measuring the temperature of steel and bronze. However, I have to be the hottest person alive because my temperature as measured by the device on my arm is 193.5 degrees Fahrenheit. The ambient temperature in the room is now around 70 degrees Fahrenheit and the device reads 21 FI, that's all there is to say.

Pretty decent adjustable accuracy

At first I was a little "annoyed" that it measured ice cubes (pure reverse osmosis water) and a few other items. BUT you can adjust the emissivity of the object to be measured so that I can get close to it. It also comes with a Type K thermocouple. Because I've done research and development in temperature measurement, I've been able to sort of calibrate infrared with a variable emissivity, which isn't possible with other options. The repeatability is pretty good and that's more important to me.

Big disappointment. Although it can have a large measuring range, it is not accurate and therefore not suitable for important work.

I bought this device because of its extended thermal measurement range and adjustable reflectivity. In particular, I managed to measure the heat of metal parts during welding, machining and heat treating. Depending on the metal and what you are doing with it, the measured temperature can range from 500°F to several thousand degrees (e.g. steel melts at around 2500°F). The block I received is not very accurate; I found his measurements to be only good within 20-25 degrees when compared to…
