So the first sign of trouble with this skimmer was the missing skimmer hose barb on the pump hose connection. Despite using different clamps, the hose never lasted more than a day. I ended up cutting off the original non-notched connector and gluing the notched connector. After that the skimmer worked very well. It turned out to be a good skimmat, quiet, seemed reliable. However, after a few months, they stopped producing any kind of Skimmat. Disassembled and cleaned the pump. Nothing yet. I installed it so the bubble head was only on the red ring. A Skimmat was made in one day. Then suddenly the cup filled and overflowed. Luckily I was feeding the fish at that time and turning off the skimmer before it drained the tank. So I reduced the height of the head a bit more. The skimmer has been fine for a couple of weeks although it has still produced little to no skimmer. I woke up this morning to find 20 gallons of water on the bottom because the skimmer overflowed again and emptied half the tank. This is after several weeks of "working" with no adjustment. I do not recommend this skimmer to anyone! If you use it, install a float valve in the lid to shut off the skimmer if the bowl gets too high!
