Review on ๐Ÿ”Œ Avantree DG40SA Windows 10 Bluetooth USB Adapter, Wireless Dongle for PC with Plug & Play Support for Headphones, PS4 Gaming Controllers, Mouse, Keyboard, Printers, and More by Adam Taylor

If you're looking for BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy Adapter), look elsewhere. I checked both adapters to make sure it's correct.

I bought this (Windows 10/8.1/8 version) after buying the original adapter for older versions of Windows (although Avantree says that this version also works with all current OS versions builds, and it's also BLE-compatible with Windows 8 and later.) Both adapters that Avantree sells claim to be BLE or BTLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) compatible, but both claims are false. For those of us who actually check the event logs for inconsistencies or errors that appear when something doesn't work as intended, this might not come as a surprise. I want to say this first before going into why I only gave the device 1 star. Both devices work flawlessly when it comes to connecting to BT devices or any other purpose that you can use BT connection for. My problem is not that it is used as a BT USB adapter, but that it is advertised as a BLE compatible device. If you buy this and don't care about the BLE issue, this BT adapter will work as intended like all BT adapters. Some information about BLE devices: Windows 10 has built-in (Windows Update) support for BLE and should work properly with all Windows versions from Windows 8 to the current version. In Windows 7 there is no BLE support without modifications, namely a driver and a compatible BT adapter. Because Windows 10 supports BLE, it's easy to discover and use. Most people will tell you that it should be used with a USB 2.0 port if available, but technically it should work with USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 ports as well. I have tested both BT adapters I received on 2 desktops and 2 laptops running Windows 10 v1803 (April 2018 Feature Update). All BT adapters were connected to all devices via standard USB 2.0 ports. To be thorough, I've also tried USB 3.0/3.1 and USB-C (via USB-C to a standard USB adapter). All were monitored for 24 hours. Everything was immediately recognized by Windows and drivers were automatically installed as with any new device. As I said, the BT functions worked without problems on all machines. However, all BT adapters registered as NON-BLE devices generate an event log error multiple times within a few seconds. Any error is related to the local adapter not supporting BLE. This was repeated over and over again on every system tested. In summary, if you just want a BT adapter and don't care about BLE then this will definitely work for you, but if you want something you actually paid for and not just words written on the page are thrown, then I would look for an adapter that is actually compatible with BLE, not the other.
