Review on Black Audio-Technica ATH-M50X Professional Grade Studio Monitor Headphones with Detachable Cable - Critically Acclaimed by Eh Wah Paw ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent quality, absolutely not expected for such a price.

I love these headphones. For many years I used regular ATH-M50s, but due to their age, I decided to retire them and buy an ated version. This is a great "workhorse" for everyday use at home and on the street, for listening to any music and a variety of genres - they will play everything, rest assured. They do not have a huge dependence on the source. They will play nice both from the phone and from the built-in codec of the motherboard. But, nevertheless, with a good sound card or an external DAC / amplifier, the sound changes for the better, so I recommend buying a separate solution. Nothing more is needed - sound cards and amplifiers from entry-level to intermediate level will do. I am very familiar with these headphones. I've listened to thousands and thousands of hours of music on them, I've used them indoors and outdoors, I've played them and watched movies, and they've never let me down. In my opinion, this is one of the best closed models in the price range under $200, if not the best. To sum it up, I recommend it. Heartily and with love. A legendary thing that justifies its cost by 200%, all recommendations and praises. Chances are you won't regret it.

Pros
  • - in fact - the sound. Detailed and balanced over the entire frequency range, the bass is dolbit normal'no, but does not "dirty" the sound picture, the middle sings, and the tops chirp. Headphones digest and play great any music - from country to hard rock and metal, from jazz to electronics. The sound is solid, full, voluminous, the feeling of presence is very high. As for closed headphones - a fairly wide stage, the location of the instruments is well defined. - assembly, design reliability - they are indestructible, assembled soundly and from high-quality plastic and partly metal, it is pleasant to hold in your hands, you can feel the value. I have an ancient pair of normal M50s, without the X prefix, which are eight years old - still intact and working without problems, although the cable is dazed and the headband has long since crumbled, but everything else has held up just fine after so many years. At the time of writing the review, the ATH-M50x has been in use for exactly a week. - interchangeable wires and the presence of as many as three in the kit, for different occasions and for different needs. The cables themselves are soft, thick, high-quality and pleasant. Easily replaceable ear pads. - the weight. Lightweight, weighing approximately 280 grams. The neck does not get tired, there is no pressure on the head. - extremely pleasant appearance. Simple, discreet, but very cute - the headphones do not catch the eye, but upon closer examination they turn out to be very beautiful. - a nice little thing - the presence in the kit of an adapter from 3.5 mm to 6.3 mm, which is not just put on, but screwed onto the plug.
Cons
  • - complete ear pads. The biggest disadvantage of these headphones for me personally. I bought the M50x - and immediately took them out of harm's way, putting on others that I had on regular M50s. The ones that come with the headphones are bad in every way - they are very thin and the hole is not large enough. In short, if your ears are larger than average, then these headphones will be overhead for you, not covering. Of course, different ear pads greatly affect the sound, but I still recommend throwing out the factory ones and looking for others. — headband material and factory ear pads. After some time (2-3 years of very active use), the headband begins to crumble into dust (literally). Ear pads begin to harden and deteriorate in less than a year. Again - I advise you to throw them away, they are not worth it.

Different pros: Good Shumka, the sound is clear, they sit pleasantly on the ears :-). With its cons. There is no microphone, for this amount it was possible to add a microphone.

Different pros: Replaceable cable, it's good that there are several of them in the kit. Cons: The sound in the M50x after open planar headphones is like in an aluminum tin can.

Pros: The sound for the money is excellent! Overall build quality. Its cons: Ears sweat. They sweated even in the spring, when it was not at all hot outside. Although the cable is detachable, the headphone input is not standard

A big plus is the lack of a microphone. Putting on these headphones means listening to music or playing the guitar, no zooms.
