Review on Black Audio-Technica ATH-M50X Professional Grade Studio Monitor Headphones with Detachable Cable - Critically Acclaimed by Amar Amar ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I am completely satisfied, item complies with description.

I've been listening to M50x on all my tracks for half a year. At first it seemed that the headphones were not far from ideal. Soon I began to notice that I didn’t want to listen to them for a long time, and then I didn’t want to listen to them at all. At this point, about a month ago, a friend gave me an HDJ 2022 to replace the ear pads and give it back to him. Well, I decided to compare. At first, the M50x seems to sound more natural due to its more aggressive high frequencies. But then you understand that the HDJ 2022 is better in all respects, and you no longer want to listen to the M50x, and you never want to. You understand why some headphones cost 150 bucks and others 350-450, BUT YOU UNDERSTAND THIS ONLY AFTER SOME TIME OF ACTIVE USE. Problems of the M50x that do not immediately come out, but then it is impossible to put up with them: 1) Lots of bass. This is not a disadvantage. The downside is its sound. It's fat, it sounds weird, and it's not bouncy at all, it doesn't "thump". Even on the open HD599 (comparable cost), the bass sounds better and more natural. This results in the following drawback: 2) All percussion instruments do not strike. There is no kick, no punch, they are simply lost in the general panorama of flat instruments. 3) High frequencies sound unnatural, they are overpriced, they sound barrel-shaped, you can fix this with an equalizer, but the sound becomes even more grotesque. In general, the headphones are very good, but there is definitely nothing that would make them sound better than their cost.

Pros
  • Good sound for your money; excellent detail in the entire frequency spectrum; Extremely comfortable fit on the head thanks to soft ear cushions, slightly turned cups, as well as an absolutely ingenious solution - a soft cushion-like lining between the speakers and ears (maybe negatively affects the sound!)
Cons
  • There are a lot of high frequencies, their sound is somehow barrel-shaped and unrealistic, the bass sounds implausible.

All in all, it's a decent choice for the price.

Different pros: Sound, assembly, three thick wires for connection. Got cons: Headphones are quite heavy and feel pressure. Over time, the head gets tired, but not critical.
