Review on πŸ”‡ Optimized PPC FPA6-54 6dB Forward Path Attenuator for DOCSIS Cable TV Box and Modem at 75 Ohms by Victor Ewing

Revainrating 5 out of 5

6dB forward attenuator, fixed timeouts and cable modem restarts

Example: Cable modem uplink issues fixed, low cost, no outlet/power supply. Dislikes: Don't know why it works so well. ** So: before I got this little helper, I thought about buying a return path amplifier like the $40 Antronix RRA1-10 (had used it before for the same problem). The problem was that all performance levels were still in the "should still work" range, eg 0dB downlinks, 45-50dB uplinks, SNR over 30dB, but the internet connection dropped daily. I had a 6 year old (4x8) cable modem with 4 channels uplink and 8 channels downlink. Replaced it with a new modem with 4x16 support but that didn't help as the T3 timeouts persisted even with the new modem and daily modem restarts were evident from the modem logs. Then I installed this FPA and like magic: no more T3 or modem reboots, many days in a row. Now that this FPA is installed it has been running non-stop for over 2 weeks with a pristine clean event log. The strangest thing is that the power levels haven't changed dramatically, now they're -2 to -5 dB downlink, 46 to 49 dB uplink, depending on the time of day. The downlink SNR (direct path) is 35 dB or better and no uncorrectable errors (FEC) are seen on the downstream counters. I'm glad I tried this product first. There were similar ones on sale at a lower price but I chose this source for its reputation.

Pros
  • Surge = 6kV on SCTE IPS-TP-210
Cons
  • Negative present
