Unlike the "old days" these sponges today come with a smelly chemical "scent" that causes nausea. I've tried removing the stench with a strong oxidizer containing hydrogen peroxide, but to no avail. Only buy these pads if you plan to coat your pots and dishes with chemicals after washing them.
