Review on Cloudy Dimmable Setting Replacement Ceiling by Kevin Cota

Revainrating 5 out of 5

If you have ceiling fans installed, do it!

A bit tricky. I have a Westinghouse Cayuga 60" and a Hunter "Costco Special" 52". Both fans have two branch tubes that are clamped onto a removable plate that snaps between the motor housing and the diffuser. Both required minor reversible modifications for installation. I'm a lover and a lover; I don't like constant mods and cutting wires. My fans have been changed to be completely reversible; The only thing I "destroyed" was a couple of butt connectors to reuse the factory connectors to allow these new lights to plug/snap into the wiring harness as originally intended. I can easily open them and put the old plugs back into the fan. the case when I want to transplant this light into another assembly. I highly recommend not just sticking it in the diffuser and finishing the job, as even a few inches of space under the light had a big impact on the diffuser exposure. I used some sheet metal screws to attach the LED block to the plate. The baseplate on the LED gets somewhere between warm and hot, so the case needs to provide some heat dissipation by attaching directly to the baseplate. If you have a ceiling fan installed, this is a very simple upgrade as all you have to do is remove the connectors from the (usually) removable panel and connect the exposed wire to the fan's wiring harness. Disassembling the lower part of the fan and brainstorming.

Pros
  • Three installation methods (dome mount, surface mount and junction box mount) of upgrade kit.
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
