This product basically provides a lot of ammonia which eliminates bacteria. After its addition, 2-3 ppm of ammonia was removed in about 24 hours. This has led to the well-known nitrite spike that lasts for one to three weeks or more on a regular cycle without the aid of any products. I am currently in my second peak nitrite week. I wouldn't recommend adding the fish right away. They can survive, but can be permanently damaged if exposed to high levels of nitrites for several weeks. This product can reduce the cycle time from a few days to a week at best. If you can get seeds from an existing tank, go this route.
