Review on πŸ”Œ 12-Outlet Essentials POWSAV Protector with Splitter by Brent Borseth

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Large selection of important functions.

I bought this because it screws into a decorative socket. This is a rectangular duplex socket with a screw on the bottom of the plate but no screw in the middle. Most other multi-output devices screw into old duplex octagonal jacks. The problem is that they easily come loose when plugged into decorative sockets because they aren't securely fastened. When multiple end caps are attached, the weight of the end caps tends to contribute to the shifting. The Powsav device can be securely mounted on both decorative and octagonal rosettes. When the device arrived, I immediately saw how useful it would be in my office. My different forks come in different sizes. One plug can cover two or more outlets. I had to use two different 6 socket devices to plug in the plugs I was using. This resulted in cords running from my desk to two sets of outlets that I had to use. The Powsav device has 12 sockets with three pins. Six of these are located parallel to the wall at the front of the unit. They are side oriented compared to the orientation of a duplex wall outlet. 3 outlets perpendicular to the wall on both sides. They are oriented so that plugs with a large size that will cover the second outlet in a standard two-outlet configuration will leak out into the room and thus not obscure other outlets. If you have plugs that cover the sockets on the sides, they can be placed on the bottom row of the faceplate or on the top or bottom sockets on the side and they won't cover anything else in those orientations. For my home office, I have two standard 3-pin plugs and 5 plugs that take up space sideways or vertically. I can plug all 7 into one Powsav unit and still have extra outlets. This would not have been possible many years ago as standard duplex outlets have always been rated for a maximum current of 15 amps. Modern office equipment has very low power consumption, especially chargers for phones and tablets and power adapters for laptops. My 7 devices that I have connected draw a maximum of 4 amps. They don't even come close to the maximum rating on the outlet. I estimate 1 amp for the laptop and 0.5 amp for each of the 6 chargers and additional power supplies. While the main reason for the purchase was the solid mechanical connection, being able to connect so many devices with different geometries greatly eased my wiring confusion. . Surge protection is required and present on many other multi-outlet devices. USB sockets offer more versatility and can further simplify cabling. My external accessories come with their own non-USB compatible power cords, so those accessories have to occupy power outlets. Although I just received the device, I immediately found another place it could be useful, so I ordered a second copy. I hope that these devices will work for many years as the underlying technology has been developed and tested. If the devices fail in the near future, I will update this review.
