Review on Magellan Maestro 3250 3 5 Inch Navigator by Corey Ford

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Started off pretty well but then had problems

Bought a Magellan 3250 GPS just before leaving for a 5 week trip to the east coast. I didn't even have time to put the CD in my computer to read the manual. Basically, we did a good job with trial and error. In some areas, like the southern tip of Maine, we had to drive in circles to find a popular lighthouse. Finally he stopped to speak to a passing lady and asked her how to get to the lighthouse. She said the GPS doesn't work here - we found that out. There were times when it seemed like it was taking too long to get a signal (especially when it was cloudy outside). Can't figure out how to type some addresses in some parts of the east coast. I still don't understand and have been at home for several months. All in all it helped us a lot in an area we didn't know well (the entire east coast). One problem on the trip was that the GPS drained the battery of our first rental car; had to jump about 5 times in 2 days; So we traded it in for another vehicle, but this time we turned off the GPS when we weren't driving. The Best Buy guy said the Ford (which we rented) doesn't turn off the GPS when the key is removed like other cars do, so this can drain the car battery. When we got home we hooked up the GPS to our Chrysler van and only had issues with the GPS running on its own internal battery and not the car battery and so it ended up being about an hour - so had to it will be charged. at home on the power supply. It was not good. I tried this on my daughter's machine with the same problem. I called Magellan (didn't wait) and they immediately sent me another car adapter. Got a new adapter with the same problem. Called Magellan again (reached a living body with no problems) and they wanted me to try it in another car (the car adapter light was on all the time - it was very frustrating and confusing). Went to Best Buy and they have a 'cigarette lighter' that they use for testing, so they checked my device - it seemed to be charging - that was a good sign that the adapter and GPS might be ok , but maybe it was the power source of our car. The guy from Best Buy (a really nice guy) came over to the car and we plugged it in. He did the same as me but now it works and seems to be running on car battery now. I do not know why! But that was only 2 days ago when we tested it at Best Buy so I'm still holding my breath.

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Some difficulties
