Best small KVM for the money!

I have a multi-monitor box at home that works for a LONG time. Started with a 3 monitor DVI from StarTech that could switch 3 monitors, keyboard, mouse and audio on 4 different computers. I liked it for a long time, but then I made the mistake of plugging in a USB bus powered device and lost the K-KVM part. So I added a separate switch block just to toggle the USB. Has worked well for several years. Then I moved to another federal state and had to work remotely there for about 6 weeks. I had monitors there but no additional KVM. Also, the monitors I had were HDMI only. So I decided to buy this little KVM and boy was I happy! Being able to switch keyboard and mouse directly was great again. I also usually switch between PC and Mac, so it was nice to know that this is compatible on both sides. A PARTICULARLY helpful piece of advice in the guide was the idea that it would be better to use an HDMI to VGA or DVI adapter rather than buying dedicated cables with HDMI on one end and an alternate connector on the other. a ton of these cables lying around because of my old KVM which was all DVI. When I tried one, I found that the junction box didn't work that well. But when I used their original HDMI cables with one of those little DVI adapters on the monitor, it worked great. HDMI cables, they were only 6ft long and needed my devices to be close to the box. So I installed it under the table in a drawer where the cable routing allowed me to adjust the table to an upright position without disturbing anything. Chair. Now that I'm back home I ripped out the old DVI and actually upgraded two of my monitors so I could ditch the old DVI connections and switch to pure HDMI. The weight savings alone on my desk was huge just by getting rid of those old heavy DVI cables. Now everything is nice and clean and there are no more heavy, clunky connectors to fiddle with.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Lots of stuff
