Brilliant modular design, the one I replaced was just awful inside and never will be. But it's definitely not 5 liters. When filled to the maximum level listed in the manual, I measured 3.9 liters (about 1 gallon). It wouldn't be a problem if, in the same order, I didn't spend more than I should have on a large 5 liter jug to fill it. I tried it on the floor and checked the humidity at different heights, even after hours of use. Humidity only increases near the ground. So put it on a table or as high as possible if possible (fog descends fairly quickly). This is probably true of any ultrasonic humidifier. Finally, as mentioned, yes, there are plenty of parts to collect! I found it helpful to use a permanent oil pen to number the pieces in the order you stack them, as shown in the photo. I only need a humidifier occasionally and can't remember how to put it all together.
