I just received a 2015 Macbook and there are only two USB ports with two useless Thunderbolds and even an Ethernet port. This hub is a lifesaver: it adds 2 USB ports and an Ethernet port - yes, I want a permanent connection to my router. You ask why two ports when the hub shows three ports? Well, you need to connect to one of the ports on the computer, and that one isn't available - it's available on the hub, leaving two others. But regardless: I would recommend this hub for the price and the ethernet port and would be a life saver.
