I recently built a walnut and cherry hidden box. I wanted to hang it on the wall like a dressing table and leave the lid open so I bought this product. I followed the directions to the tee and they worked like a charm on the first try. I was excited until I went to finish the box. Somebody clip failed after only 2 opening hours. This resulted in the cylinder crashing into the top of my cabinet, destroying some very expensive walnuts in the process. I can't believe how cheap the unit was. Will this open the heavy lid and keep it open? Yes. Will you constantly play the guessing game of when the equipment will fail and what will destroy it? Also yes. Do yourself a favor, shop elsewhere.
