I bought this as a birthday present for my soon to be 4 year old nephew. But after opening it to inspect it, I plan on keeping it for my 3 year old son and buying my nephew another one! It is engaging for the whole family, 14 year old and parents included! The magnetic stylus is a great tool to develope pencil grasp and then to push the metal bearings back down is great tactile learning for preschoolers. It has capitol letters on one side and lower case on the other. On the lower case side, the letters are a little small in size causing the magnets to pop up even if the stylus isnt right over top of that spot. That is my only complaint, but not bothersome enough to return or not use this toy.I cant speak to durability yet because we've only had it for a day, but it seems sturdy enough for preschoolers. I definitely wouldn't give this to a "8 month to 18 month old" as the recommended age says on the amazon page. Obviously depends on the child, but I would say 2-4 would probably be the target age. A child that can sit and focus on a task for short periods.
