I was initially apprehensive about purchasing this lock based on some of the negative reviews but then decided to order and am glad I did. There are basically two types of negative reviews. here: one of people whose bike was stolen while using the lock. That is clear. But in the end, all castles are just a deterrent. We know it. This isn't New York Fahgettaboutit. But this lock costs twice as much, is twice as heavy and still not impregnable to thieves. A great lock for the price and weight. Another type of bad feedback comes from people whose locks are stuck. I was really worried about that. In fact, if the lock is not adequately lubricated, it can jam. The same is true to some extent for keyed locks, but their design allows for less exposure to the elements, so they require less lubrication. With combination locks, each of the wheels exposes the inner workings a little. That's why it has a dust (and rain) cover. Use this and oil the lock from time to time and you won't have any problems. The deciding factor for me was that a bike rental shop near the University of Washington rents these locks. They have dozens of locks and if their bikes were stolen or their customers' locks jammed, you can bet they wouldn't use that lock.
