A rare fail for Spenco—not properly sized

I have used the Spenco 3/4 green orthotics forever. Last year I discovered their shoes, and the metatarsal bump changed my life. I was having a bout of plantar fasciitis complicated by metatarsalitis in the same foot, and I got a pair of the cork slides—instant relief. I got a pair of the bedroom slipper mules, then the moccasins, then three pairs of the Yumi flipflops (as a Florida beach bum, flip flops are right up there with sunscreen, and I can’t wear 90% of them). As you can see, I am a Spenco believer. Then I saw the full-length orthotics with the metatarsal bump and all I could think of was how many pairs of my shoes would be liberated from my closet.but, alas. ‘‘Twas not to be.I ordered them in my size, knowing that I would probably have to trim the forward end. But that isn’t the problem. The problem is with the bump. It should hit in the forward part of your instep, in the center of the foot, just before the ball of the foot. Instead, if I seat my heel properly, the bump is under the ball of my foot. In other words, I apparently should have ordered a size down. Normally I would return them, but the boxes are gone. So I’m out over $40 and not sure if I should try the next size down.

Pros
  • They are great!
Cons
  • May not be durable enough for long-term use
