Armor in elbows and shoulders is very good. You want to order a back protector. This jacket is loose fitting on my body so I wear a leather vest over it to keep everything close to my body. I would like to change it up a bit so I don't have to wear a vest over it. I usually wear honey but need room underneath for a sweatshirt and my arms are too long for the plus size. I'm size XL and it fits great down to my core. The arms and shoulders are perfect for the hood. This is a great cold weather jacket. I drove in mine all winter last year and never froze. I also have a pair of Coretech jeans that I ordered knee and thigh pads for. They are ideal as breeches. I am 140 pounds 5.10. I would say these jackets run small. Hope that helps.
