Review on JACO Lightning Presta Schrader Valves by Hugo Caywood

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works well for Presta but not perfect

I'm fed up with the cheap plastic filler head on my air compressor tire. It didn't seal well and it was difficult to set the exact air pressure in my Presta valved bike tires. This cartridge is all metal and appeared to be of better quality and more durable. It takes a bit of training to use properly, but it comes with good full-color instructions. Once properly screwed onto the Presta valve, it closes tightly and does not leak. It can be removed easily and quickly by pulling the blue collar. The instructions say to turn the ring 2 or 3 turns to secure it to the valve, which is correct, but it's full turns so more like 5 or 6 half turns if you're trying to screw it in with one hand. Price, I wish they had some splined 1/4" fittings so I can attach them to the end of the hose that doesn't already have a 1/4" fitting. I would also like to be able to buy one at half price. I only needed one, but at least I have a backup now. This is probably the best tire valve chuck design I've ever used, but it's still not perfect. You have to screw it in really tight or it will leak with a little side to side movement and you have to make sure you get the cartridge out quickly when you're done or it will leak. I will update this review if I come across any durability issues. The only thing that I think will wear out is the internal rubber O-rings. I haven't tried Schrader valves either, only Prestas.
