The cross on the back of the ladder arrived with a strip removed. The spacer must be screwed to the ladder frame. Instead, it was just a buckle. I would have fixed it but I couldn't because the hole in the ladder frame was drilled in the wrong place and the connector couldn't line up with the hole. That's why the X-frame appeared. It wasn't the right fit. This is very bad because I like the very thin width of the ladder when in the collapsed position. It's a light and beautiful staircase, except when faced with a challenge like this, you have to wonder if it's durable.
