Didn't think I'd need it but it was an essential part of setting up my new turntable, arm and stylus. I had no idea what exactly I was planning to do. I'm new to this audiophile business and thought it would be easy to guess if there was enough weight to make a record sound good. For as little as $15 or whatever it costs, I can actually know that the recommended tracking/weight is set to the optimal value for a given pen. If you search the internet for your cartridge and needle, you will find that people have been experimenting with tracking to get the most out of the needle. Also, the company you buy your pen/cartridge from has recommended reference weights for that cartridge and it's good to know your pen is optimal. and whatever it takes, you can do it right. I like it, it's easy to use, cheap and worth playing.
