The fan is a beast! Moves the air like a whirlwind on hot days or when I need to cool down/dry off quickly after a workout. I also use this fan as white noise when I leave the house so my dogs don't bark at every noise they hear outside. Does a fantastic job at it and it's very heavy too. The quality is very great! Very happy with it and highly recommend. And yes, it's loud because it has to be. Don't buy if you want to watch a quiet TV show while you work, that's not what it's designed for. Buy a cheap, low-power fan from Target. And loudness is the sound of strong air movement, nothing annoying or squeaky. Great for sleeping if you like big white noise. This is great for drowning out outside noise or other distracting noises in your particular scenario.
