This cable will work as advertised if you install it in the correct order. You need to connect the cable to the USB port without connecting the printer first. This allows Windows 7 to recognize the cable and assign drivers correctly. Once the cable has been fully recognized, you can connect the printer. I restarted my computer just in case before plugging in the HP Laserjet printer I had. After you have connected the printer, you must assign it to the USB printer port in the list because it is a new driver from the cable configuration. Don't choose a parallel port and you'll be fine. If you need to download the Laserjet printer driver separately, you can do so, but just select the USB printer as the local port. After that, it works great and allows you to use that old parallel printer with new laptops and desktops. My setup worked on an HP laptop running Windows 7 64-bit. If the setup actually worked I would give it 5 stars. But it wasn't that hard to figure out as many other reviewers had experienced something similar.
