Review on πŸ“‘ Outdoor FM Loop Antenna: Ideal for Attic, Mounting, and RV Use by Jeff Olson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Bad news, good news

First the bad news. When I connected the antenna to the antenna analyzer for measurements, I was very disappointed. I am a radio amateur for many years and have an antenna analyzer that I use to test my antennas. And it was useful to test this antenna. When set up as shown in the picture, the center frequency of the antenna is 84 MHz. and the SWR of the VHF antenna averages 3.5:1. Not good. Now the good news. I was able to greatly improve the antenna by mounting one of the aluminum sections of the antenna to the rear and shaping the antenna into a large "S" instead of a circle as shown in the picture. This shifted the center frequency by 98MHz and lowered the SWR to 2:1 or less. Much better. I should have known better. An antenna that can be folded by itself is always a compromise. But I don't want to return things, I'm glad they work well enough to keep. Now it looks pretty weird, but it picks up channels very well. If you're installing this antenna in an RV or a tight space I think it's fine, but if you have the space and are trying to get weak stations I'd go for something better.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Excessive price
