Version with "painted" handle is not painted. You should have described it as "stained" but unfinished. The wood is not sealed in any way so is just a slightly different color than "unvarnished" and I would expect the stain to come off your hands if it got wet. The other surprising part is that the broomstick doesn't screw into the socket very well. The thread of the handle is very coarse and made of wood, and the thread of the spout is a fine-thread plastic pipe connector. If you break the threads of the handle to force it in, it stays in place, so you can attach the handle once and take it apart once, but you can't reassemble it a second time without attaching the threads. Everything else is as described. Seems to be good quality but we'll have to wait and see how long it will last with use.
