Review on πŸ“Ÿ Enhanced Voyager Wireless Bluetooth Barcode Scanner for General Duty (1202g) by Nick Narvasa

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A very simple scanner. (Good thing!)

Years ago I helped design handheld barcode readers. I am impressed by the simplicity and price of this device. Installation is as simple as plugging it into a USB port. That's all. The scanner uses existing keyboard drivers that ship with Windows and MacOS. The BlueTooth connection is set up in advance. Bluetooth is used between the reader and the base station, so nothing needs to be configured and a Bluetooth connection to the PC is not required. The scanner reads almost all barcodes. Initially I had small issues related to the quality of my custom printed codes, not the reader. While troubleshooting I have found that the reader is easy to program by scanning specific command shortcuts from the user manual. This allows you to turn off unused code characters. This is not required for well-defined labels. We bought a second one and just used the default settings. At $325, this is a bargain. The only thing that bothers me are the mechanical aspects. This device looks very durable for a desktop or retail environment, but might not be strong enough for a factory environment where it can be dropped from a long distance. For our application, the price allows for an exchange if necessary.
