Review on Enhance Your Cycling Experience with the Garmin Bicycle Mount Bracket by Alquino Scarwin

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Tight tolerances are best for GPS, finders and accessories

The design is simple and efficient, battery cover replacement is securely fastened in the bracket that is mounted on the handlebar. So far, so good. The replacement battery cover (same as the original cover) has a short metal post and cross pins for attachment. Unfortunately, the locking post on the replacement is too short (you can see the ruler going across both covers) and cannot be fully installed (and therefore cannot connect to the handlebar mount). I could probably force it, but that would damage the plastic socket that the pin sits in. As an official Garmin accessory, I expected better tolerances. I returned my unit as defective (which it was) and will see the chances of getting a working unit before ordering again. I have a Garmin Etrex-H which is just what I need for a basic pocket GPS with long battery life. I also noticed that the original cover is made in Taiwan (the quality is excellent) and the replacement is made in China (which is improving). In addition, the original lid has a thin (permanent) rubber gasket around the entire perimeter, while the replacement gasket only covered about 1/3 of the perimeter. This would make the device less waterproof when cycling. That could also be a manufacturing defect and could even explain the short pin if the spacer is too thick in the areas it covers.

Cons
  • There are nuances
