Review on Brix Refractometer with ATC - Dual Scale for Wine Making, Beer Brewing, and Homebrew Kit: Specific Gravity & Brix Hydrometer by Jon Krishna

I should have known!

Starting a 75 gallon saltwater aquarium and a 15 gallon quarantine aquarium. When I set up a 75 liter tank, I needed way more salt than stated on the salt container to get the right salinity. I calibrated the refractometer with distilled water and it read zero so I didn't think about it too much. We move on to the quarantine tank and the same case. Gravity 1.025. This is about 7 to 7 1/2 cups for a 15 gallon tank. I drank up to 9 cups and still haven't reached 1025 SG. I was beginning to suspect the refractometer was off so I rushed to one of the local pet stores and got a hydrometer, I filled it with water from my 75 gallons. and he FIXED the hydrometer! I quickly started gradually reducing the salinity before it killed two of my Black Ocelleris Clownfish! Lesson: You get what you pay for. This refractometer is rubbish! If you are looking for a refractometer to control the salinity of your saltwater aquarium, LOOK ELSEWHERE. YOU WILL KILL YOUR FISH IF YOU DEPEND ON IT!
