Review on USB-1 Music Hall Record Turntable by Jean Donjuan

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Tons of research, Musical Hall is the clear winner!

I spent countless hours researching turntables before settling on the Music Hall USB-1. The main reason I chose Music Hall was the great reviews, or rather no bad reviews compared to other turntables in this price range. Another requirement was that it had to fit my entertainment center, which was only 18 3/8 inches wide. While the included Audio Technica cartridge fits, at this price point it would have been nice to have included an AT95e, but following the advice of another reviewer I set the tracking weight to 2.5g instead of the recommended 3.0g, and it works very well hundreds of records released in the 70's and i'm really impressed how they sound brand new on this turntable, better than i've ever heard them before! Maybe I'll upgrade the pickup in the future, but for now I'm completely satisfied. Although it wouldn't be bad if it were fully automatic, that fact means there aren't just fewer crashes. Deformation commonly reported by other brands. The adjustable pitch also works well and maintains speed, especially after the tape snaps a bit and the gauge is set to 2.5 grams. There are those who may find fault with things like the plastic base or Foam Pla Better coverage, but none of that detracts from performance in my opinion, and it's definitely not worth paying hundreds of dollars more when this turntable is as good as it is. I highly recommend it!
