Compass scale (pink) marked in 6 degree increments; it's easy to read, and the transparent dial is great for aligning with map grid lines. After aligning the compass to true north and verifying the current declination of +15.2 degrees for our Oregon area, the magnetic compass needle correctly points to "magnetic" north at approximately +15.2 degrees east. The thermometer is very small and doesn't work; It hasn't changed from the 72F (as shown in the photos) since unboxing, whether indoors or out in 40 degree weather. However, I bought this inexpensive compass for the convenience of a lapel compass for hiking (non-critical bearing). and it will work accurately enough for that. I would give this compass 5 stars (for accuracy, value and convenience) if the unit didn't have a thermometer. Since it has this faulty trait, I felt it appropriate to give the device a lower rating. In my opinion it would be wise if the manufacturer did away with the thermometer and replaced it with a simple and useful static rose showing the cardinal points. This will probably eliminate most of the negative reviews about this handy little compass.
