I possibly mis-read the description, but I was under the impression that these were an appropriate size to start and keep seedlings in until ready to transplant outside. Not so. I'm still new to starting seeds indoors, and this was a big thing I learned this year. You could start seeds in these trays, but you'll need to move them into bigger pots pretty quickly.However they are quite sturdy and held up to a lot of use this spring. They are also the perfect size for starting seeds for my husband's hydroponics garden. The rock wool cup things fit perfectly. So it wasn't a waste, but I will be buying larger seed starting pots next year for my outside garden.
