My tailgate wouldn't latch - I kept spraying grease on the ends and brackets to no avail - then I could Finally raising it a little to grip level and it worked for a while. I've finally replaced the handle/latch and now I don't have to slam the tailgate - I just have to close it and it latches as it should. You will also most likely want to buy a plastic bezel as it is likely quite fragile and will most likely break when you take it off (the handle/latch will need to be replaced). I found mine was already broken and held in place with thick double sided foam tape. Perfect fit, easy to install and includes plastic clips for the locking bar ends. This will most likely solve your tailgate problems.
