In general, a good monitor for work by a home IT specialist.

I'll just start by saying that I'm not a gamer and this review will not reflect that use case. I'm a developer/systems IT professional working from home. After many months of working with my laptop on the couch, I decided to get serious about installing a home office desktop with an additional monitor. I went with ultrawide vs 2x side-by-side as it seems like a more efficient use of space. I originally had an LG 34WN650 but it came right back as I didn't realize how much resolution would be an issue. After some more research on all the specs and what they really mean, I settled on the Asus VP348QGL 34-inch Ultra-Wide. It's economical and comes with a three-year warranty. As already mentioned, I'm not a gamer, I work in technology. I love this monitor plane as I can have multiple terminal windows, remote desktop sessions, email, messaging, zoom, commands, browser, music apps, etc. It's great, it's really great. I can have much of what I want right in front of me. The only negative point that can be removed here is the viewing angle. The windows on the extreme right or left look a bit strange at first, especially if you don't turn your head. But it's not terrible and for me it's not critical. It would probably be slightly better to have a curved screen for viewing angles, but it doesn't cost me $100 or more to get that feature. Here's a tip, especially if you're a Mac user like me. Use a USB-C to HDMI cable. I've tried both USB-C to HDMI and USB-C to Displayport. Color accuracy and control is much better with an HDMI connection. I've spent most of the day tweaking and tweaking color profiles with both, and the switch from USB-C to HDMI fits the bill perfectly. The only thing I don't like. Check out the video I added. This issue is a flashing blue screen when my laptop goes to sleep. What happens is the monitor shows a blue screen saying there is no HDMI connection. It stays on for about 10 seconds and repeats over and over without stopping. So annoying. The only options are to either turn off the monitor using the power button and OSD before the laptop goes to sleep, or unplug the USB-C connection from the laptop. Again not a deal breaker but something I'd like to know in advance. Watch the video, it's only a minute long but you'll get what I'm talking about. Finally, the monitor can shake a bit when I'm fairly active, but my desk shakes a bit because it's on carpet. I might consider replacing the monitor base with a Vesa wall kit. Again nothing special but a few things to know. Overall I am very happy with the monitor and would recommend it for a WFH setup.
