Small powerhouse for handheld lamps

A few days of online research, comparison of characteristics, test reports have led me to the Nicron N7. This is a replacement for a 5 year old Nebo Redline 5620 which has served me well. I originally wanted a flashlight that uses an 18650 battery, but after seeing this and thinking about how often I carry the Nebo in my BB bag, I figured a smaller size would be better. I need a flashlight with a magnetic base of at least 300 lumens, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, a side light or rotating head, a zoom lens. This light ticked all the boxes except for the zoom, which I could do without after seeing photos of the radiation pattern. A wide overall beam with a central hotspot is suitable for my use. I tested it first with a standard AA battery and then with a 800mah 14500 battery. The performance at high power with the AA battery seems to match the low power at 14500. It's not easy to knock him down. The head rotation feels smooth and can be left in any position from 0 to 90 degrees. Overall, the lamp makes a well-made impression. The switch has a nice crisp click that requires medium pressure to activate. Hopefully enough pressure that accidental activation doesn't often happen in my pocket or backpack. The included O-ring is actually a replacement as it is already fitted to the light. I turned on my Nebo at 300 lumens in the pictures for comparison. This flashlight is about 1/3 the price of the Nebo so I think the price is great. Compared to other flashlights I've researched, one of the nice, perhaps overlooked, features of this flashlight is how the switch works. Many other lights force you to switch between ALL lighting modes, requiring many clicks to get back to the one you want. I love how the N7 puts the lesser-used strobe and SOS modes on their own layer, accessible by holding the button down for a few seconds. So you only have 3 clicks in normal everyday work. High, low, off I may come back and update this review in a while to report on battery life and durability. 01/19/2020 almost a year later with this flashlight and I still love it. Fell on the concrete floor several times, no problem. I carry 14500 spare batteries with me because of the lack of a battery gauge. The luminous flux remains almost constant up to the last 30 minutes of battery life. I highly recommend this flashlight! Update: 7/25/20 ordered a replacement after my original one died. I love the glow in the dark ring they added in the head. Cool effect when turned off. The really big improvement of the new model is the change in the power button. Now you have to hold the button for 2 seconds to turn it on or off. Hopefully this will reduce the number of accidental power ons in my tool bag or pocket and battery drain!
