The opals look plastic and the chain is fragile and too thin. You don't need much from a $12 jewelry set, but these items didn't live up to even those low expectations. I often read reviews and feel that the reviewer must have unreasonable expectations. I assure you that this is by no means true. I have ordered a few "costume" pieces (including an opal ring) and am happy with them. This set is just bad.
