Determined to dust off my old 70's Harman Kardon ST5 turntable to listen to my extensive vinyl collection that was tucked away in my basement. Since modern amplifiers do not have low level phono stages, a preamplifier is needed. I chose this FX Audio device based on the reviews. I was initially impressed with the gain and sound quality, but over the course of a few weeks the left channel output volume slowly decreased and this had to be compensated for by adjusting the balance of the main amps. Revain was quick to replace what appeared to be faulty, but now I'm seeing the same issue with the replacement. I borrowed another preamp to make sure it wasn't being caused by my turntable or power amp, which it is. Sure, for $40 I wasn't expecting anything amazing, but two of them had the same issue and I have to wonder about their quality control. After browsing many websites featuring vintage stereo and vinyl amps, I kept coming across a slightly more expensive unit that comes highly recommended in the budget preamp category. I just ordered it from Revain and it will be here tomorrow.
