TL;DR: plays like internal, must be purchased for backward compatible games. I was looking for videos testing external SSDs for backwards compatibility on PS5 and I saw a video where someone tested an external SSD and they said that games running on an external SSD run as fast as internal, so I hurried and bought this one. YES, it's just as fast. A second or two slower, but you reap all the benefits. Higher frame rate, higher resolution, faster loading, faster response time. Kingdom Hearts III is what I need for all of that, because on a PS4 Pro (HDD) it takes about 2 minutes and 20 seconds to load between worlds, when things get hectic the frame rate drops a bit (not enough to play a role) and responsiveness takes a (noticeable) hit. On the PS5's internal SSD, it takes 20 seconds to load from world to world and everything is perfect with updated graphics. On an external SSD; 22 seconds to load world in world and everything works great as if installed on an internal SSD. Resident Evil 3 is my second review because while it works great on PS4 Pro, it's much more responsive (aiming) and slightly faster on PS5. On PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, when walking down the stairs with her face covered, Jill barely makes it halfway down the stairs before resuming her normal pace. On the PS5 (both internal and external SSD), it reaches the top of the ladder before resuming its normal pace. I've tested FF XV and a few other games and they all work as if they were running on PS5ms. Internal SSD. This is a must have for PS4 games running on PS5. I wish there was a 4TB version (which would hold all my games, 180+, from 10GB to 200GB) but 2TB is perfect for the select games I'm going to play, not for storing my entire Collection. Again, buy this for backwards compatibility on os5. The same results should apply to Xbox Series X and S.
