Description of SAMSUNG Portable SSD 500GB MU PC500H

TRANSFER IN A FLASH: Transfers files nearly 9.5x faster than external hard disk drive (HDD). Reads up to 1,050 MB/s / Writes up to 1,000 MB/s on USB 3.2 gen 2 supported devices*. *SAMSUNG RECOMMENDS users to download the latest firmware update via the included Portable SSD Software 1.0 to ensure optimal performance. Data transfer speed may vary depending on the user’s PC environment and the types of data being transferred. USB 3.2 Gen2 and UASP support are required for maximum transfer speed (1,050MB/s)**. **SAMSUNG RECOMMENDS the usage of the included USB Type-C to C and USB Type-C to A cables. Non-original cables may cause performance degradation due to the varying internal resistance and maximum allowable currency. BUILT STRONG & SECURE: Shock-resistant and withstands drops from 6ft. ADVANCED HEAT CONTROL: DYNAMIC THERMAL GUARD (DTG) TECHNOLOGY protects the T7(T7 Touch) from overheating by automatically slowing down data transfer if necessary. DTG technology enhances product safety and reliability by preventing the T7(T7 Touch) from reaching an excessively high temperature. PASSWORD SECURITY.

Slow & Finicky for computers and accessories

I have a T5 and decided to give it a try as it is said to be faster. So I ordered a 2TB non-fingerprint model in red. The first thing I noticed is that this drive is slow to turn on. It takes about 30 seconds from the time Windows 10 recognizes the connector to the time you can actually use the drive. The drive also sometimes goes offline. But for me, the problem is that it doesn't offer the rated 1000MB/s read or write speeds. In fact, I can't get a read speed of 700MB/s when testing on…

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • Updates available

Works as advertised. Stylish and practical portable SSD.

A great little portable drive for me. I don't have any of the problems described by others. I connected my Samsung T7 directly to my iMac Pro with the included USB-C-to-C cable and measured 888.9 MB/s read and 844.2 MB/s write. This is in line with my expectations as in my experience the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test typically measures speeds 10-15% below the manufacturer's rated speed (presumably because it is a sustained speed test). I have NOT installed any Samsung software. I left the default…

Pros
  • Easy to install
Cons
  • Available in black only

Good PS5 external storage. If you add multiple heatsinks

At $250, you could do worse for two terabytes of external SSD storage for your brand new PS5. It doesn't have the speeds of a decent 2TB NVME SSD found in something like the Asus Arion, but at this price point you can live with read speeds of 1000Mbps. Like the T5 and T3, the T7 works well as an external drive for the PS4 and PS5. Both consoles will install game updates on the T7 when in sleep mode. The PS5 features USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, so you can enjoy the speed benefits of the T7 when playing

Pros
  • The transfer rate may vary depending on the user's PC environment and the types of data to be transferred. Maximum transfer speed (1050MB/s) requires USB 3.2 Gen2 and UASP support**
Cons
  • It's ok

Seems like a fast ride! But.

Owned a Samsung T5 and a few other SSDs for a while. Was glad Samsung got a USB 3.2 SSD which should be much faster. , You must have USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 on your PC/Laptop! With no USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports, it works similarly to the T5. I tested my 2019 Surface 3 laptop with USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 support. I was able to get full speed from the best and copy files to it. Seems very fast! But! As the file size increased, the speed/performance started to decrease. It's not noticeable when the file size is less…

Pros
  • RUGGED AND ROBUST: Impact resistant and withstands a 6 foot drop.
Cons
  • No performance

Must be purchased for PS5 for external SSDs

TL;DR: plays like internal, must be purchased for backward compatible games. I was looking for videos testing external SSDs for backwards compatibility on PS5 and I saw a video where someone tested an external SSD and they said that games running on an external SSD run as fast as internal, so I hurried and bought this one. YES, it's just as fast. A second or two slower, but you reap all the benefits. Higher frame rate, higher resolution, faster loading, faster response time. Kingdom Hearts III…

Pros
  • **SAMSUNG RECOMMENDS using the included USB Type-C to C and USB Type-C to A cables. Non-original cables may vary due to different internal resistance and max allowable currency will result in performance degradation
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine
