I was struggling to get this to work as tech support is only available for 'professional' installers due to liability issues. This would have been a very easy answer from tech support but they refused to help me. I had connected the device correctly the whole time, and the problem was where do I connect the 12V. To program, the device needs to be connected to a constant 12V voltage. Once programmed, it can simply be connected to a switched 12V voltage such as ACC. This is slightly better for the power outage when the car is off, as the device will not be powered when the car is off.
