We tried to archive old but valuable color slides with this scanner but were very disappointed. While the scanner performs acceptably in well-balanced daytime scenes with bright sunlight, it distorts color balance and exposure in all other areas (e.g. overcast or cloudy scenes, scenes with a large dynamic range of shadows and highlights). The issue is related to the auto exposure feature and the very limited dynamic range of the scanner, and using the exposure adjustment tools on the scanner was limited when troubleshooting. This turns the shadows jet black to reduce the intensity of illuminated areas like the sky. As a result, most of our scans ended up looking like these old postcards from the 1950's. Also, all too often, strange artifacts appeared during scanning, such as B. blue sky scanned as yellow! Unfortunately, digitized scans are too compressed and have a limited dynamic range to correct such problems in a high-end imaging program like Photoshop.
