Serial wombat is MUCH BIGGER than an I2C expander. As soon as I read about the Wombat I developed four of them into a board that I designed to provide IoT pool automation (circulation, heating, pool chemistry) based on the DFRobot WiDo Arduino. I got four of these and installed them in the sockets on the board. It then took me several hours to use the libraries to place 6 LEDs, 6 buttons, two hall effect flow sensors, two rotary encoders, two analog chemical sensors and four tri-state jumpers - all with four 8-pin DIPs. The wombat libraries will offload your Arduino with a TON of real-time calculations and dozens of hours of coding, and John's code is way better than mine! I just compiled and uploaded the fixed wombat function calls and it worked the first time. This is a truly unique product for I/O intensive embedded applications. And the documentation is way better than most Arduino products; this is important for an old man who likes to read. Brilliant product!
